Global Protests Through Art — Book Design

Client Dr. Işıl Eğrikavuk is a Turkish-born artist and academic based in Berlin, working as faculty at the Berlin University of Arts (UdK). Isil Egrikavuk

The Book "Global Protests Through Art: collaboration, co-creation, interconnectedness" is a reworked rendition of Eğrikavuk's 2021 PhD thesis, sparked by the Gezi protests that started in Istanbul in 2013. The book explores the intersections between global protest movements and community arts — socially engaged, dialogue-based practices — and documents a hands-on collaborative project realised with six arts and ecology collectives from Turkey. It was co-published by Books People Places and Universität der Künste Berlin in 2024.

My Role I designed the book in its entirety — from the overall layout system to typography, page architecture, and cover design. The challenge was translating an academically rigorous yet deeply personal text into a visual form that felt both scholarly and alive — reflecting the collaborative, practice-based spirit of the research itself.
